Legal Notices

Last updated 22 July 2026

This page sets out the legal terms that govern the use of the STC-SA website, how we handle personal information, and how to access information held by STC-Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2001/000318/07) (‘STC-SA’, ‘we’, ‘us’).

1. Website terms of use

The content of this website is provided for general information about STC-SA’s training, certification, placement, and consultancy services. While we take care to keep information accurate and current, course content, schedules, durations, and fees are subject to change; the current pricing prospectus and course confirmation documentation take precedence over website content. Nothing on this website constitutes an offer capable of acceptance; all bookings are subject to our registration and payment terms.

2. Intellectual property

All content on this website, including text, trademarks, logos, illustrations, photographs, graphics, files, designs, and arrangements, is protected by copyright and other laws, and is the property of STC-SA or its licensors, including the STC Group. Content may not be reproduced, distributed, or used for commercial purposes without prior written consent. Certain elements may be protected by third-party rights and are correspondingly protected for those third parties.

3. Booking, cancellation, and certification terms (summary)

  • Provisional bookings are not course confirmations. Registration is completed on receipt of a certified copy of the student’s ID, supporting documents, and payment.
  • Fees quoted include VAT at 15% and are subject to change without prior written notice; an annual price adjustment may be scheduled.
  • Cancellations and rescheduling are subject to the notice periods and fees set out in the applicable campus pricing prospectus.
  • STC-SA reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course (typically only for insufficient enrolment) and will inform affected students as early as possible.
  • 100% attendance is required for certification. Certificates are issued on completion of training and fulfilment of all terms, including payment. Delegates attending refresher training must provide proof of valid prior certification.

4. Privacy policy (POPIA)

STC-SA respects your privacy and processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

4.1 Information we collect

We collect personal information you provide when enquiring, booking, or registering for training, including your name, identity number, contact details, qualifications and certification history, and, where relevant to your training or placement, medical fitness information collected through our clinic. Where you consent, we collect photographs and testimonials for training records and marketing.

4.2 How we use it

We use personal information to: process bookings and registrations; deliver training and issue certificates; comply with accreditation and regulatory obligations to bodies such as SAMSA, OPITO, TETA, and other authorities; support employment placement through our crewing division where you request it; communicate schedules, certificate expiry reminders, and relevant course information; and meet legal, audit, and financial obligations.

4.3 Special personal information

Medical information collected for seafarer fitness certification is special personal information under POPIA. It is collected with your consent, used solely for fitness certification and related regulatory purposes, and handled under medical confidentiality.

4.4 Sharing

We share personal information only where necessary: with regulators and accreditation bodies as required for certification; with employers or funders where you are enrolled under a sponsored or funded programme; with prospective employers where you have requested placement support; and with service providers who process information on our behalf under confidentiality obligations. We do not sell personal information.

4.5 Security and retention

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, and retain training and certification records for the periods required by maritime regulation and law.

4.6 Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information (subject to regulatory retention requirements), object to processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise these rights, contact our Information Officer at info@stc-sa.co.za or +27 21 418 5062. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforeg@justice.gov.za.

4.7 Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies and analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site and to improve navigation and content. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.

5. PAIA, Promotion of Access to Information Act

In terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2 of 2000 (PAIA), STC-SA maintains a PAIA Manual describing the records we hold and the procedure for requesting access to them.

6. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, STC-SA is not liable for loss or damage arising from reliance on website content, from website unavailability, or from third-party websites linked from this site. Training outcomes such as certification and employment depend on individual performance, regulatory requirements, and market conditions; historical outcomes described on this website are not a guarantee of individual results.
